The challenge
The London Ambulance Service (LAS) recognised the need to create a workplace culture that embraced neurodiversity among its 10,000 staff and volunteers. However, the organisation faced challenges in understanding and accommodating the diverse cognitive needs of employees, which affected collaboration, performance, and well-being. These obstacles highlighted the importance of structured solutions to empower neurodiverse staff and foster inclusion.
- Lack of awareness and understanding of neurodiverse needs among staff.
- Difficulty in making reasonable adjustments to accommodate neurodivergent employees.
- Challenges in fostering collaboration and inclusivity across a large workforce.
The solution
London Ambulance Service partnered with Cognassist to implement a comprehensive neurodiversity programme, including cognitive assessments and personalised training. This initiative empowered employees to disclose neuro-differences, facilitated tailored support, and created an inclusive culture. The training provided managers with actionable insights to support neurodiverse staff, leading to improved collaboration, confidence, and inclusivity throughout the organisation.
