Cognassist

For Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) and Additional Learning Support (ALS) managers

You answer for every learner's support, and for your specialist team's time

Consistency that doesn't depend on which tutor notices, and a specialist team protected for who needs it most: both are your accountability, personally.

When support depends on luck, it's your team in the frame

Support quality depends on which tutor notices, and how confident they are to act. Every case your specialist team didn't need to see is time taken from a learner who does. If a gap surfaces at inspection or audit, it's your oversight in question, not an abstract number.

  • Consistency rides on individual tutor expertise, not a system
  • A finite specialist team can't simply grow every time need rises
  • Every unnecessary escalation steals time from the learner who genuinely needs it

Built for what you're accountable for

Consistency built in. Specialist time protected by design.

  • Every learner assessed, not just those who disclose

Identification never depends on which tutor happens to notice, or on a learner disclosing a need. Every learner is assessed at enrolment.

  • One real-time standard, whichever tutor delivers

The Coverage Checker coaches every tutor's support record to the same standard, so consistency doesn't rest on individual expertise.

  • Your specialists amplified, not replaced

Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) and other complex cases route to your Additional Learning Support (ALS) team by default. A confident non-specialist tutor, coached by the platform, owns the rest. How you allocate stays your decision.

Proof · Aspiration Training

A Head of Functional Skills and Learning Support who made consistency the system, not the exception

Aspiration Training, an independent training provider, embedded the cognitive assessment into enrolment for every apprentice, so personalisation conversations happen every week, not only when a learner declares a need.

“It feels like a perfect storm of timing. We've got a tool that supports inclusion from enrolment onwards, and the conversations we're having with coaches and learners about personalisation are happening every week now, not just when someone declares a need.”
Zoe Fox, Head of Functional Skills and Learning Support, Aspiration Training

FAQ

The questions this role actually asks

  • How do we make sure support doesn't depend on which tutor happens to notice?
Every learner is assessed at enrolment, so identification never depends on disclosure or tutor instinct. The Coverage Checker then coaches every tutor's support record to the same real-time standard.
  • Does this replace our ALS or SEND team?
No, it amplifies them. Your specialists become key product users, their expertise is scaled across every learner, and they stay the default destination for genuinely complex and EHCP cases.
  • How do I decide what goes to my specialist team versus a general tutor?
The whole-cohort assessment triages to the right level. Complex and EHCP cases route to your ALS team by default; everyday support is a confident non-specialist tutor's to own, coached by the platform throughout. How you allocate stays entirely your own decision.
  • Does this mean my team now keeps evidence in a second, separate system alongside our management information system (MIS) or e-portfolio?
No. Your specialists keep doing exactly what they already do, ensuring evidence collection and review. The Coverage Checker simply coaches every tutor's monthly support record to a consistent standard in real time, as it's entered. How Cognassist fits the systems you already run is covered in full on our learner support at scale and reasonable adjustments pages.
  • Can I see how consistent my tutors' support actually is?
You have visibility of the learners belonging to the tutors you manage. The full whole-provider view needs administrator scope.
  • Is the cognitive assessment a diagnosis?
No. It's a signal for a tutor's professional judgement, not a diagnosis, and it doesn't by itself establish disability under the Equality Act 2010.
  • Will this add to my team's admin?
No, the platform carries the admin and lowers the specialism bar. At monthly review, a tutor's whole task is to select what they supported, confirm delivery and note the impact.
  • Does this work for colleges and training providers alike?
Yes. It's provider-agnostic, working the same way for FE colleges and independent training providers alike.

Consistent support, every learner. Without stretching your specialist team thinner.

Whole-cohort identification and a real-time standard for every tutor, so consistency doesn't depend on luck, and your ALS team's time goes where it's needed most.
